Ethiopia is a country on the eastern side of Africa in an area commonly known as the “Horn of Africa”. It is home to approximately 117 million people. Ethiopia's per capita GDP is one of the lowest in the world, and it's literacy rate stood at only 52% in 2024. The economy faces a number of serious problems, with the lack of education playing a major role in being unable to solve those problems. Bridge for Life is dedicated to educating as many Asella children as possible. We firmly believe that education is the key to economic independence, and breaking the cycle of poverty plaguing Ethiopia. Asella is a city of about 110,000 people and is 100 miles (160 kilometers) south of the capital Addis Ababa. Bridge for Life is focusing first on Asella since we have direct ties to the city. As a result, the children who don’t attend school leads to them being uneducated and frustrated. These children end up illiterate, unskilled, and spend their time in the streets, getting into trouble. Bridge for Life firmly believes that education is the way out for these kids and ultimately, the communities where they live. It is our goal to help change the cycle of poverty through educating as many children as we can. Bridge for Life does this by providing scholarships to send children to school.
