What We Do
Bridge for Life is a non-profit organization working for community development by providing scholarships so students can attend the Asella City school. Specifically, at this time, we are focused on providing as many students with at least one meal per day while at school. Multiple studies link hunger to low academic learning. We aim to remove this learning barrier from the these students. We firmly believe that education is the key to economic independence, and breaking the cycle of poverty plaguing Ethiopia.
Bridge for Life focuses on children in and around Asella City, Ethiopia. The organization's primary role is to provide scholarships, through trusted partners, to Asella City students. These scholarships provide students with:
A meal during the school day (current mission)
Books (future goal)
Supplies (future goal)
Uniforms (future goal)
Health checkups (future goal)
Bridge for Life believes that education is one of the most important ways to improve the lives of children and is one of the best ways to offer entire communities a better future. Education is a primary tool for breaking the cycle of poverty, empowering future generations, and assisting whole families in breaking away from abject poverty. We support their education through the Asella City school, continuously discussing student progress with teachers, and, in the case of orphans, finding responsible guardians to care for them and take them. We train teachers in child protection and raise parents’ awareness of the importance of educating their children and respecting their rights. We are committed to partnering with local organizations, government bodies, and partner agencies to provide a platform for active participation in the program design and, most importantly, prepare parents to become active in their children’s learning.
